Hired

Reimagining the recruitment process

Product Design Lead

Hired's web application gave recruiters full access to an internal database of active candidates seeking for new carer opportunities - making the job matching process more seamless and efficient.

As a Lead Product Designer at Hired, I led the creation of a new product line aimed at engaging passive candidates—highly qualified professionals who were open to new opportunities, but not actively job searching.

TL;DR

Hired was acquired by LHH Recruitment Solutions in 2023

The challenge

Hired's platform was primarily catered to active job seekers, leaving a gap in how recruiters to connect with passive candidates.

The challenge was to design a solution that allowed passive candidates to discreetly express openness to new opportunities while providing recruiters with better tools to engage them effectively.

Research & Discovery

User Research

To understand the needs of passive candidates and recruiters, I conducted extensive research:

User Interviews: Engaged with professionals who had changed jobs in the past year to identify motivations and barriers.

Market Analysis: Evaluated competitors like LinkedIn and AngelList to understand existing solutions and gaps.

Key findings

  • Passive candidates were open to new roles but unwilling to take active steps in job searching.

  • Privacy was a major concern—they wanted control over who could see their interest in new roles.

  • Recruiters needed a way to identify and engage with passive candidates efficiently.

Design & Results

Create informative components to help drive awareness

As a low effort, high value solution, I updated two ares of the platform to attract users to the MVP from the active marketplace

  1. Low/No Results Page

  2. Opt-in Banners

These additions increased overall adoption by 13%

Design an onboarding experience for the passive candidate MVP

I brainstormed three different interaction points that users pass through to educate them on how to best navigate and engage with the new feature

After running an A/B test among a selected group of users, we identified the in-line carousel as the preferred version
